If you are thinking about becoming a professional groomer, or if you already are a professional groomer, the best place to learn about shears and there different uses is from a professional shear/scissor dealer. Now, there are 1000's of them out there, but I like MADShears.com They have a education link that tells you how to care for your shears/scissors and how to buy them. They came to my cosmetology school and taught a great class on shears, how to buy them and how to use them. My student's were confused until they attended the class and I eveb learned some things! There are long straight shears, short straight shears, long and short curved shears, and thinning shears. Straight shears are great for cutting straight lines. Use them for touching up ears, long legs, and bellies. Curved shears are good to use when the area you are cutting tends to have a curve to it. Use your curves for the head, curved areas of the legs, feet and tails. Thinning shears are used to make a natural look, thin out hair and blend in solid lines. You can use these shears just about any where on the dog depending what look you are going for.
