What do you say to a friend when he tells you he is getting a divorce?

Just tell him you are sorry to hear that and let him know that if there's anything you can do to help to let you know and you'll do your best to help him. Don't mention that you are attracted to him. It's too early. It probably wouldn't be a healthy relationship if it starts too soon after the divorce.

DO THEY HAVE CHILDREN? IF SO YOU SHOULD ENCOURAGE HIM TO TRY AND WORK/SAVE THE RELATIONSHIP. THE CHILDREN ARE THE ONES THAT SUFFER. STAY AWAY FROM HIM. HE NEEDS TIME TO THINK THINGS THROUGH & YOU SNIFFING AT HIS FEET WILL ONLY CONFUSE HIM.

Totally agree with the previous answerer. He needs someone to hear him out now. He could be totally confused. If he is not and is firm on his decision, he may be looking for someone to validate his thinking / views. Do not give unnecessary views at this point. But he does need support now.

Divorce is far more harmful than we think. There is really nothing you can say its things you can "do". First don't try and find out whose fault it is, and if you were friends to both parties, please don't take sides. Be available to talk, but stay neutral. Support is all you can give to divorcing people, and to the children.

Support? How about a kick in the seat of the pants.
