The first sale made on the Internet has probably not been recorded. It definitely predates the World Wide Web. There were mail order shops, such as the book catalog Laissez Faire Books, who enabled you to download their catalog via FTP.
Online shopping was invented in the UK in 1979 and both Business to Business and Business to Consumer systems were in use during the 1980s
