Why are animals becoming extinct? |
[Edit] |
[Edit]
There are several reasons. Some animals are over-hunted or poached (hunted illegally for profit). The natural habitats that have supported some species are being developed, and in some cases animals living in them have not been able to migrate to safe areas, or to adapt to different conditions. Environmental issues sometimes include various substances that are poisonous to some animals, or that cause dangerous population imbalances among species. There is also the natural process of change that has operated for millions of years. The vast majority of species that have ever lived on earth is now extinct. Taken by itself, this fact should not be alarming. There may be many other factors involved in the extinction of species.
